It's time to clean out your children's closets to make space for all those gifts Santa is bringing. It seems hard to believe, but the season for spring and summer children's consignment sales start next month with the Kids Exchange at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, children's consignment sales pop up twice at year. Typically run by local moms often at churches or empty store fronts, the sales feature gently used and, in some cases, new clothes, toys and other gear at reduced prices. The upcoming sales will feature spring and summer clothes and toys. So you'll find Easter dresses and bathing suits, not winter coats and Halloween costumes.

If you're interested in selling your own items at these sales, some are now beginning to accept consignors or will in the next couple of weeks. Check the sale websites for details on how to do that. And be sure to read the fine print.

Most of the sales have their dates set, though not all have their locations pinned down. So I'll be updating the database going forward.

And here's your list for the 2011 spring and summer consignment sales.
