DURHAM, N.C. — As I shared the other week, the Museum of Life and Science in Durham won't offer its annual Santa Train this year because of the ongoing pandemic. But it is letting kids and families in after hours for some holiday-themed fun. Holidays in the Park will run Dec. 2 to Dec. 6; Dec. 9 to Dec. 13; Dec. 16 to Dec. 20 and Dec. 26 to Dec. 27.

Here's a description, courtesy of the museum's website:

Enjoy a memorable stroll with your loved ones through some of our outdoor and indoor spaces on evenings in December. Follow shimmering pathways and glowing trees through our garden, Farmyard, and Dinosaur Trail. Enjoy the tropical temperatures inside our Magic Wings Butterfly House or stop by Sprout Café for a night-time snack. Take an illuminating train ride on the Ellerbe Creek Railway, passing colorful light displays along the way! We designed this year’s experience for fun, celebration, and safe physical distancing between groups.

Tickets with a train ride are $19 per person. They are $16 per person without a train ride. Each ticket has an entry and exit time to the museum to ensure there is plenty of space for everybody. You'll get 75 minutes to stroll through the museum's campus. Masks must be worn by everybody age 5 and up unless they are actively eating or drinking.

Kids two and under are free.

Note that Santa will not be at the event.

"Due to safety and physical distancing requirements, we can’t do the up-close Santa experiences as in the past," the museum's website says.

Head to the museum's website for more information and tickets.
