Thursday Wrap: Taxing work
A slow week at the legislature ended with some tax dealings Thursday.
Posted — UpdatedThe House gave final approval to a bill that would give counties flexibility in spending a quarter-cent sales tax that has traditionally been reserved for public transit projects.
Meanwhile, the Senate gave preliminary approval to a package of tax changes, including a big cut in the state's franchise tax that would help businesses.
Gov. Roy Cooper signed two bills into law. One provides incentives for a foundry to move from Charlotte to a rural county, while the other provides $90 million in disaster funding to the state Department of Transportation to repair roads damaged by hurricanes last year.
