RALEIGH, N.C. — Temperatures were 3 to 5 degrees colder Thursday morning than they were Wednesday, hovering in the mid-20s in the Triangle.

“Not a big drop — 20s are 20s — but still, we’re going the wrong direction, I believe,” meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Winds were calm Thursday, making wind chill a non-issue.

“What you see is what you get,” she said.

A high-pressure system was pushing chilly air into the area from the northwest, but it will ease up later Thursday.

Warm air will move in during the weekend, Gardner said. Sunday will get into the 70s, at least 20 degrees colder than the high of 50 degrees on Thursday.

The chance of rain increases to 30 to 50 percent Friday, though, and scattered storms are possible Sunday.

“There’s a little bit of everything in the seven-day forecast,” Gardner said.
