Storms bring trees down, cause power outages
The threat of severe weather is largely over in the WRAL viewing area. However, some areas got hit harder than others.
Posted — UpdatedThree trees fell on Kelly Road near Holland Road in Apex, bringing down power lines and leaving hundreds without electricity.
Residents were stuck in their homes while crews worked to remove the trees from the streets. One man had a tree fall in his driveway and another fall in his backyard.
In Rocky Mount and Edgecombe County, at least one tree and some power lines came down along US 64 Alternate. Some homes nearby also experienced a rough stretch where they said it sounded like a tornado was coming through with wind, heavy rain and hail. A tree fell in one person's yard and power lines were on the road.
The National Weather Service issued the severe thunderstorm watch Wednesday for most of central North Carolina, including Wake and Durham counties, as a line of storms moved eastward.
The storms had cleared by Thursday morning. With the rain out of the way, the focus turns to the heat and humidity. High temperatures will stay in the 90s until Saturday, when they’ll peak in the upper 80s.
