Three killed when car sideswipes man on side of Pitt County road

Three people are dead following an accident along N.C. 102 in Pitt County Friday afternoon.

PITT COUNTY, N.C. — Three people are dead following an accident along N.C. 102 in Pitt County Friday afternoon.

The accident happened around 1:56 p.m. several miles east of Ayden, killing Eugene Fleming, 91, Geraldine Fleming, 89, and Charles Garris Jr. 53, North Carolina Highway Patrol Officials said.

Eugene and Geraldine Fleming had been driving westbound along N.C. 102 when they drove over the center line, over corrected and then drove off the right side of the road, officials said.

Garris's vehicle had been parked on the shoulder and he was walking along the side of the road when Eugene Fleming sideswiped him and his vehicle, Highway Patrol said.
