Three injured in shooting at Smithfield bar

Smithfield police said that three people were injured in a shooting at Kelly's Bar, 2110 S. Brightleaf Blvd., shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield police said that three people were injured in a shooting at Kelly's Bar, 2110 S. Brightleaf Blvd., shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday.

Police said they found two injured people at the scene and took them to Johnston County Memorial Hospital. A third victim was found in the driver's seat of a vehicle that ran off the road in front of the hospital.

Two victims were later taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh.

One victim was expected to be released Saturday, and the condition of the other two was stable, police said.

Cesar Sanchez, 17, has been taken into custody and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. More charges are pending.

Police said they do not believe that Sanchez acted alone, and more arrests are possible.
