DURHAM, N.C. — An argument at an Indian restaurant early Sunday morning led to a shooting that injured three people, Durham officials confirmed.

Around 2 a.m., police responded Basera Biryani and Grill, located at 4818 N.C. Highway 55. The Indian restaurant turns into a club-like environment some evenings, according to officials.

Police did not elaborate on the shooting but said three adults were shot after an argument. Two of them were transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The condition of the third was not provided.

About 200 people were inside during the shooting, police said to WRAL News, while emphasizing that the situation was not a "mass shooting" type event.

Another shooting was reported around the same time at Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Old Chapel Hill Road. There was limited information on that shooting as well.

Despite a bullet hole at the front of the restaurant, the business issued a statement Sunday night saying the shooting did not happen inside Basera Biryani and Grill.

"Basera management wishes to assure that the said incident did not take place inside the restaurant or was in any way connected to the gathering in the premises. Someone, who was already injured from a shooting at a neighborhood parking, ran into the premises for safety on seeing the doors open. The security outside immediately called the police and ambulance," the statement said.

Another shooting was reported around the same time at Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Old Chapel Hill Road. Police said the shootings were connected but had limited information.

The shootings were about 7 miles, or 10 minutes, from each other.

Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
