Three I-40 East lanes to be closed for maintenance
Transportation crews doing maintenance work will shut down three of four lanes of Interstate 40 for two miles in Raleigh overnight Sunday.Posted — Updated
The lane closure will go from Exit 297 onto Lake Wheeler Road to Exit 299 onto Hammond Road. The closure will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday and last until 6 a.m. Monday.
If more time is needed for repairs, then the two rightmost eastbound lanes of the same section will be closed between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday. Also, the on-ramp to I-40 East from South Saunders Street and the off-ramp from I-40 East to Hammond Road will be closed.
In that scenario, motorists on South Saunders Street needing to access I-40 East will be directed to take I-40 West to Lake Wheeler Road to I-40 East. Motorists on I-40 East needing to access Hammond Road will be directed to continue on I-40 East to Rock Quarry Road to I-40 West to Hammond Road.
