RALEIGH, N.C. — Three people were hurt in a Monday night house fire in the Boylan Heights neighborhood of Raleigh, authorities said.

The fire started at about 9 p.m. at 715 S. Boylan Ave., and the smoke was so thick that firefighters had trouble making out the shape of the home when they arrived, authorities said.

Five people were inside at the time, and all made it out safely, although three people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to WakeMed.

Investigators said they believe the fire started on the first floor of the home, but they haven't yet determined the cause. The home didn't have any smoke detectors, authorities said.

Forty Raleigh firefighters responded to the scene and had the fire under control within a half hour.
