GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Investigators charged three teens after a BB gun pellet struck one teen in the parking lot at Eastern Wayne High School on Aug. 8.

Wayne County Sheriff's Office Capt. Tom Effler said that Dahamoney Hakem Murchison, 18, first reported that several people pulled up in a vehicle and fired a BB gun at a group of students.

Murchison had a BB gun wound in his arm, but he later admitted that he made up the story of how he was injured, Effler said.

Investigators determined that Murchison was among a group of students playing with a BB gun at the high school and that he was shot while playing with the BB gun.

Christopher Michael Hines, 17, and Calvin Darnell, 16, were charged with possession of a weapon on educational property.  Murchison was charged with filing a false report to police.

"The student that originally filed the report cooperated with the investigation and admitted his mistake, but I must emphasize that a false report still expends many manhours and can cause concern and alarm to other citizens, especially when it occurs at a school," Sheriff Carey A. Winders said in a statement.
