CARY, N.C. — Duke Energy reported widespread power outages in Cary on Tuesday morning.

Cary Town Hall closed for the day at about 11:30 a.m. because of the outages, which at their peak stretched from near Cary Towne Center in the east to High House Road in the west and affected more than 12,000 customers.

Cary High School also was among the locations without electricity.

Duke officials said they were trying to determine the cause of the outages and dispatched crews to make needed repairs.

Cary officials asked people not to call 911 to report an outage, and they advised drivers approaching an intersection where traffic lights are out to treat the area as a four-way stop.

By 12:30 p.m., the outages were down to fewer than 100 along North Harrison Avenue.
