Just a friendly reminder to all those parents of rising kindergartners who are headed to a Wake County year-round school next month: Marbles Kids Museum's very popular Kickoff to Kindergarten is this week—5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 20, at the downtown Raleigh museum.

During the event, kids can practice being in a lunch line, try out some recess games, hop on a school bus and more. As I wrote earlier this month, I still remember taking my younger daughter to this event a few years ago. The two of us had a lot of fun. It's a great way to get kids excited about this big step.

The event is free for rising kindergartners and their families. A second Kickoff to Kindergarten for traditional calendar students is slated for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17.

More information is on Marbles' website.
