Afternoon temperatures will flirt with the 90s this week
Summer-like weather is creeping in this week, with highs in the upper 80s until Sunday.
Posted — UpdatedTuesday morning started in the low 60s, but highs are expected to reach 87 degrees by late afternoon.
90 degrees is the record high for April 30 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. That record dates back to 1906.
The Triangle’s dew point is increasing, too, making things feel muggier than earlier this month.
Highs of 87 degrees are also likely for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
A high-pressure system will keep things dry until the weekend and push warm air into the area. Skies will be partly cloudy most of the week.
Rain arrives on Saturday thanks to a low-pressure system that’s currently stalling west of North Carolina. That rain system isn’t likely to be a washout, though, meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said.
"This rain, you want it, because it's going to cool us off," Sheerwood said.
High temperatures drop to around 80 degrees on Sunday and then climb back up to 85 degrees on Monday.
