As coronavirus spread slows, NC says schools can make masks optional. Only two counties qualify so far. — Guidance issued this week by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in its Strong Schools NC toolkit allows for making masks optional in K-12 schools once coronavirus spread in a community drops to moderate or low levels for at least seven consecutive days. To date, only two counties in the state -- Hyde and Cherokee -- are in those categories.
67% of all NC adults are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 — North Carolina reached a new milestone in the fight against coronavirus, with 67% of adults fully vaccinated. On Wednesday, the state reported 2,160 new cases of the virus, 47 deaths and 1,406 people being treated for it in hospitals.
