RALEIGH, N.C. — A third federal lawsuit has been filed against the city of Raleigh involving a fired police detective.
The lawsuit questions the actions of Detective Omar Abdullah.

In court documents, Raleigh Police Department Detective Omar Abdullah alleged that David Weaver, 43, sold cocaine to confidential informant Dennis Williams in 2018. Williams was indicted in September for turning over fake drug evidence that resulted in the wrongful arrest of 15 men on heroin trafficking charges. The men in those cases were all released after lab results showed the drugs were fake.

The new federal lawsuit alleges Abdullah planted drugs on Weaver, who wound up spending more than three years in prison on drug charges.

The lawsuit also alleges Abdullah pressured Weaver to become a confidential information for RPD, but Weaver refused to work as an informant.

Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman overturned Weaver's conviction this past March.

Abdullah was fired by RPD in October for his involvement after the City of Raleigh agreed to pay $2 million in a civil rights lawsuit.
