These apps can help wean you off the phone and stay on task.

Forest

This app makes a game of getting you to stay off your phone, by allowing users to plant virtual seeds. The less one's phone is used, the healthier your trees become. It's a good way to track just how much time you're spending with your smartphone.

Forest costs $1.99 for Apple and Android devices.

Focus To-Do

This app is a little more straight-forward.

Users can manipulate the app's timer to add some structure to their day, schedule break times and more. The app provides a custom report so you can see exactly how much time is being devoted to tasks.

The app is only for iOS and costs 99 cents.

FocusMe

This app allows users to block websites and certain apps for specific times.

For users who want to stifle the urge to check work email on the weekend or stay off YouTube while studying.

The app is free but requires a monthly subscription that starts at $2.50 a month.

Freedom

This app is from a local company in Durham.

It lets users schedule times in order to block websites and apps. It is available for iOS, and on your Windows and Mac computer. It requires a subscription, which start at $2.42 a month.
