The Rabbit Hole of Decor

Lewis Carroll's classic novel has been captivating minds for generations, and it's been inspiring decor for almost as long. There's something about those rich, lush, captivating scenes set in Wonderland that's inspiring for readers and interior decorators alike, whether people want formal black and white tiled hallways to evoke the Queen of Hearts or charmingly mismatched china at their tea parties. I'm always on the lookout for cool Alice-style decor, and I narrowed down five fun examples from our partners at Hometalk.

First off, this totally chic, vintage, and fun tea party set up by Janel Hutton for her daughter. I love all the obvious homages to the book here, but I also appreciate the subtle details, which really come alive when you back off and look at the decor in the room as a whole. It's definitely giving me some ideas for my next tea party -- and not just because I'm the proud owner of a set of "off with their heads!" forks from Milk and Honey Luxuries.

Where Alice goes, so does the Mad Hatter! This fun electrical project is easy to make, and great for a more subtle Alice in Wonderland look for people who don't want to go overboard. Sure, it could be a giant hat lampshade...or it could just be a really wierd lampshade, for those who don't get the reference.

Morena Hockley is creating a Wonderland of a back yard, and this is where she started, though it's far from where she ended! Note the gorgeous spill of colorful lantanas behind this birdbath -- they make a great accent plant for a sprawling, slightly wild garden.

This chandelier could be hung outdoors or indoors, at a variety of heights. Add sand to it to create a stabilizing bed for candles, or carefully drill holes through the porcelain and wire it! For a more Alice-esque look, take the time to patiently rummage through porcelain at local used stores to get a set of totally mismatched cups and saucers.

If you're going to have a bird bath, you might as well hook your feathered friends up with some snacks, too, with this fun DIY bird feeder. Use your San Diego handyman skills to make a teatime for birds as well as people!
