RALEIGH, N.C. — For the first time, the N.C. State Fair gave chance to enjoy some deep fried cuisine before the fair event starts.

The “Taste of the State Fair” was held Saturday in Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville and Greenville. In each city, customers were able to try state fair foods that were local to their area.

In Raleigh, Bourbon Street Beignets served fried delicacies such as fried Oreos, while the Snack Wagon served Krispy Kreme burgers. In Durham, Chicken Que served doughnuts and chicken waffle sandwiches. In Fayetteville, Krispy Kreme burgers and grilled watermelon were served by Oh My Dough. In Greenville, Smashed Waffles served their famous quilted waffle (waffle topped with bacon, maple syrup and powdered sugar).

Those who purchased advanced state fair tickets got to sample the food for free.

“There’s nothing like seeing the sparkle in a child’s eye at the state fair,” N.C. state Fair volunteer Janice Belcher said. “No matter how old you get it's always endearing.”

The NC State Fair begins Oct. 11 and ends Oct. 21 at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. Advanced ticket packages are on sale now through Oct.11.
