Even Disney princesses need home makeovers sometimes — and Cinderella will soon have a freshly painted pink palace.
A statement from Walt Disney World revealed that the iconic castle, which is at the heart of Disney’s Magic Kingdom, will get an update, beginning in just a few weeks.
“Our park’s iconic, awe-inspiring centerpiece — Cinderella Castle — is about to get even more magical,” wrote Jason Kirk, vice president of Magic Kingdom Park. It’s all part of the 70th anniversary of Cinderella first transforming into a princess — yes, she really has been around that long.

“We are excited to share that her story has inspired a bold, shimmering and royal makeover of her namesake castle at the heart of Walt Disney World Resort,” Kirk wrote.

This is what Cinderella Castle looks like now:

The Disney Parks Twitter account shared a concept image of what the castle will look like after the makeover:

As you can see, the top half of the castle will be painted blush pink, with a darker blue on the roof shingles and beautiful gold trim.
Not everyone on Twitter is impressed with the upcoming changes. User @_TylerDean complained that the “hundreds of thousands of pictures taken of her over the last four decades will look outdated” and accused Disney of doing it “all for the ‘gram.”

But most people are pretty excited about the royal makeover. “A very much needed upgrade, and it looks great!” wrote @OffhandDisney, while @Mercylu01 said, “Even more beautiful! Love the new gold details.”

@RitasAdventures tried to keep the peace, commenting, “We have seen many facelifts over the years, I am sure there will be many more to come.”

If you’re taking a trip to Walt Disney World this summer and are worried that a paint job of this scale will interfere with your enjoyment, Kirk assured fans that they’ll still be able to access all the rides. Whether you’ll have serious amounts of scaffolding in the selfies you and your kids take in front of Cinderella Castle is another thing.
