Welcome back to WRL Small Business Spotlight, where we're touring the triangle, highlighting your favorite local businesses as they continue to bounce back from the pandemic. I'm Kevin Kozminski, and this week we're in the heart of downtown Carver, checking out a real deal. Thai joint. It's bringing some heat to mainstream. Welcome to chant. I Yeah, Chan Tai, located on Main Street, right where Rosemary Splits Off was opened in September of 2019 by Jack and Pim, UNC one and their daughter Angela. Now, if you've never had Thai, I can't encourage you enough to give it a shot. I didn't grow up eating it, but now it's one of my favorite cuisines. And for all you tie aficionados out there, I'm here to tell you this place is legit. We put a lot of heart into our food, and we try to keep the authentic Thai flavors. They've got something for everyone here. We use a lot of the authentic ingredients as well as a spice level for everyone. Mild, medium hot, very hot and extra hot. Actually, which is crazy because I can't go more than medium, but it's pretty spicy. We get people who have been to some other Thai restaurants in the area. And they are like, this is hotter than any of the Thai food that we've tried in this area. I would say we like to keep things authentic, so we want to find out just exactly how hot is super hot. So Pim was kind enough to whip me up. Something with a whole lot of extra kick, basically drunken noodles. And we're gonna find out right here exactly what we're working with. Let's give it a shot. Mm. Definitely. Get the kick right away. No doubt about it. But this is exactly the flavor you're looking for. And if you'd like to add a little spice to your Thai food, this is exactly what you want. The agency One family has had quite the journey to Carbo. Jack grew up in the restaurant business in Thailand, working for his mother at her place. So he meets Pim. They moved to California 93 opened their first restaurant in 99. Then they moved to Montana, and now finally, Scarborough. We were searching for our place, basically our spot, and it appears they finally found it. But that doesn't mean it's been easy. Seriously. Imagine opening your dream restaurant and just six months later, getting struck by pandemic the RNC Wan said their new community helped prevent their dream from becoming a nightmare. This community means a lot to us. We're really, really grateful for everyone here ever, especially ever since the pandemic hit. Everyone's just been so supportive. Jack and Kim had to say goodbye to co workers and friends because with limited business came limited hours. We have been financially impacted. We've gotten some help, thankfully from our landlord and from some of the government programs that have been available. We've just been operating on a takeout only model. We decided I thought it would be safer for everyone. Angela tells me that her father made a decision that regardless of how difficult things got during Covid, it didn't stop this family from doing their part. Ever since my dad found out that there are a lot of people who have lost their jobs and are struggling even though some of the materials have gone up in price, he's been trying to get back to the community by increasing the amounts of food, but Angela says that's just the way things are done in the Thai culture. High people are usually known as really laid back and easy going and just a welcoming country in general. Even if they don't know what you're trying to say to them, they'll try to help you out on the file. They'll give me that kind of welcoming by a vibe you'll find right here at chant. I kind of like bringing a little piece of tile in the carver out. Yeah. Mm.
