DURHAM, N.C. — A Texas man accused of killing a Pennsylvania high school football player in Durham last week is being held without bond.

Gabriel James Gamez, 22, is accused of shooting Darrell Turner, 18, and teammate Thomas Woodson, 15, in the parking lot of an AT&T store at 5348 McFarland Drive at about 10 p.m. last Thursday.

Investigators say it all started with a fight.

Turner, a rising senior and a linebacker, was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Woodson, a rising junior, was shot in the leg, and authorities said his wound wasn't life-threatening.

Turner and Woodson were visiting colleges in Durham and were on their way to a football camp in Florida.

Gamez was in Durham for a family member's funeral. His next court appearance is July 18.
