(CNN) — Terry Crews has a simple response to those who question his #MeToo story.

"Why didn't you say something? I did," Crews wrote in a Tweet on Friday. "Why didn't you push him off? I did. Why didn't you cuss him out? I did. Why didn't you tell the police? I did. Why didn't you press charges? I did. Why did you just let it happen? I didn't. Why didn't you beat him up? (Sigh)"

The actor, who went public in October 2017 accusing a Hollywood executive of groping him at an industry event, shared his account again earlier this week while speaking at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for the Sexual Assault Survivors' Bill of Rights.

In his remarks, Crews cited the "cult of toxic masculinity" as a primary cause for the prevalence of sexual assault against women and men alike.

He said that manhood "tends to be 'cultish,'" and men will "protect each other," even at the expense of a victim, resulting in a "complicit system."

The "silence," Crews said, is "deafening when it comes to men talking about this issue."

The way to fix this problem, Crews emphasized, is through male "accountability." And for Crews, that meant "taking a stand," even if it results in criticism or lost opportunities in Hollywood.

Earlier this week, actor/rapper 50 Cent faced backlash for mocking Crews on social media. The rapper has since deleted the posts.
