Summer-like heat could carry us into next weekend
Summer arrives this weekend with temperatures that will reach into the 90s under sunny skies.
Posted — UpdatedSaturday was the hottest day of 2019 in North Carolina so far, with the high temperature at 91 degrees in the Triangle and 95 degrees in Fayetteville.
Sunday was almost as hot, with a high around 90 degrees expected late afternoon. At 11 a.m., it was already above 80 degrees in Raleigh, and temperatures had climbed to 89 degrees by 2 p.m.
WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood reminded pet owners to keep pets out of hot cars. When it is 90 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car can get up to 109 degrees in 10 minutes and 124 degrees in 30 minutes.
Temperatures won't fall much for next week, with highs in the upper 80s expected Monday and 90s expected for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Some thunderstorms are likely but not certain Monday afternoon, which is the most likely of the next seven days to see rain.
