Teenager hit by car in Harnett County

A 16-year-old was hit by a car on Saturday in Harnett County.

CAMERON, N.C. — A 16-year-old was hit by a car on Saturday in Harnett County.

According to the state Highway Patrol, Derek Joseph Brown was crossing N.C. Highway 87 in Cameron when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 45-year-old woman.

Paramedics transported Brown to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of two broken legs and massive head trauma. He was listed in fair condition Sunday afternoon.

The driver was transported to Central Carolina Hospital as a precaution.  She was suffering from minor neck pain.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the wreck and no charges will be filed against the driver, troopers said.
