Woman's act of kindness for Waffle House customer goes viral

A Texas waitress has received a $16,000 college scholarship from a Houston university after a photo of the young woman helping an elderly customer cut his food at Waffle House last week went viral.

The diner, identified as Laura Wolf, posted the photo on Facebook.

"I heard this elderly man tell (Evoni) his hands don't work too good," Wolf posted. "Without hesitation, she took his plate and began cutting up his ham. This may seem small but to him, I'm sure it was huge."

The post has generated hundreds of responses and interactions as users shared and interacted with the update. The teen's good deed has also prompted news coverage on CNN, Time and local and international newspapers.

"I was never raised to bash people . . . and was raised to try and help, and try and give," Williams told a local television station.

Wolf updated the profile picture on her Facebook page to show a picture of her standing next to Williams.

Officials at Texas Southern University heard about the good dead and presented her with a $16,000 college scholarship along with counseling to determine her higher education opportunities. Williams is a high school graduate who has been saving money to attend college one day.

The accolades didn't stop there.

La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking issued a city proclamation on March 2 to honor Williams.

"I have my own day!" Williams said when asked to show her proclamation to a television news reporter.
