WENDELL, N.C. — High speed was a factor in a single-vehicle accident that killed a teenager Saturday night, troopers said.

Four people were riding in a Ford Mustang along Marshburn Road near Todd Lane around 11 p.m. The Mustang left the road and struck concrete pillars, troopers said.

The driver, Sean Leland Smida, 19, of Zebulon, died at the scene, troopers said. A  passenger was transported to WakeMed with injuries.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, troopers said. The state Highway Patrol continued to investigate the accident Sunday.
