Raeford, N.C. — Investigators say a 16-year-old boy has been shot and killed during a birthday party in Hoke County.
Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said more than 100 people were at the party when gunfire rang out around 1:15 a.m. Sunday at the mobile home near Raeford.
Authorities say the victim, Hoke County High School student DeAndre Ricketts, was shot in the head. No one else was wounded.
Peterkin says his deputies are trying to talk to people at the party and track down other leads.
No arrests have been made, and the sheriff isn't sure what prompted the shooting. He does think more than one gun was fired.
