RED OAK, N.C. — A car crash injured a teenager and knocked out power to nearly 2,000 people in Nash County Wednesday evening. Power was restored by 4 a.m. Thursday.

According to troopers, Sara Gwinn, 16, drove a 1991 Infiniti off Red Oak Road, near Loop Road, and hit a utility pole just after 10 p.m. The car overturned several times and she was thrown from the car.

The Rocky Mount teenager was transported by helicopter to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She suffered several broken bones and was in stable condition in the intensive care unit, troopers said.

Troopers estimate she was driving 80 to 90 mph in the 55 mph zone. She was charged with exceeding the posted speed limit and a seat belt violation.
