WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A 16-year-old driver has been charged in connection with a three-vehicle crash in Wake Forest on Monday that killed one person.

The crash occurred at about 5 p.m. near the intersection of Jones Dairy and Chalk roads.

A Ford F150 pickup was headed northwest on Jones Dairy Road and ran a red light at the intersection, authorities said. The pickup hit a Cadillac STS sedan that was pulling out from Green Mountain Drive, and the Cadillac then hit a Honda CRV, which overturned.

The drivers of all three vehicles, along with a passenger in the pickup, were taken to local hospitals for treatment of various injuries. The driver of the Cadillac, Roberta Stahl, 79, of Wake Forest, later died from her injuries.

The driver of the pickup, Elijah James McDaniels, of Wake Forest, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Neither excessive speed nor impairment are suspected in the crash, authorities said.
