DURHAM, N.C. — Officers arrested an 18-year-old man Thursday and charged him with committing three armed robberies over the past five days.

Sebastian Smith, of Wabash Street, robbed two women and a man at gunpoint on Sunday and Monday, police said.

Investigators believe that Smith was one of two men who approached a 36-year-old woman as she unlocked her car in the 1500 block of Lakeland Street at 11:09 p.m. Sunday. They stole her purse.

Less than an hour later, police said, Smith and two other men stole a cell phone and wallet from a 23-year-old man in the park near Sima and Ridgeway Avenues.

Police also charged Smith in the robbery of an 81-year-old woman as she got out of her car on South Plum Street at 10:16 p.m. Monday.

Officers have also charged a 15-year-old boy in that robbery.

Anyone with information about the armed robberies was asked to call District 4 Investigations at 919-560-4415 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
