Raleigh, N.C. — Police in Raleigh were searching for clues after two people, including a 14-year-old, were shot and wounded Sunday, authorities said.
Police were called about 3 p.m. to the 200 block of Merrill Court and the Jamestown on the Creek apartments on a report of shots fired. People in the area told WRAL News that they heard at least three gunshots during the middle of the day.
When police arrived, they found the victims, who were taken to a local hospital for medical care. The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
The teen's injuries were non-life threatening but the adult was listed in critical condition Sunday evening, police said.
Police have not yet said what prompted the gunfire, but some residents described it as a shootout. Police said they did not have any information on a suspect as of Sunday night.
Several officers canvassed the area while searching for clues. Yellow crime scene tape was erected around one of the apartment buildings.
A man said he went to check on his relatives after he heard about the shooting.
"I thought something had happened to my family members," said Fernando Lagunas. "I got scared seeing a lot police officers here."
None of his relatives were hurt during the incident.
Police were also trying to determine if two vehicles that drove to WakeMed in the moments after the gunfire were connected to the shooting.
