DURHAM, N.C. — Morehead Montessori Elementary School teacher Alex Hurdle is keeping students engaged with creative remote learning opportunities.

For Hurdle, teaching came naturally. Her mom has been a teacher 30 years and even taught WRAL anchor and reporter Adam Owens.

Hurdle is now the AIG specialist for academically gifted pre-K through fifth graders at Morehead Montessori Elementary School.

To keep her students entertained while learning from home, she organized a digital movie night over Zoom complete with snacks students’ families could pick up.

"At 6 p.m. Monday night, we all got on our computers and watched a movie together," Hurdle said. "It was so fun, they had their siblings with them. It was almost like we were in person."

Hurdle said she’s looking forward to returning to classrooms one day.

"I feel like we’ve already created this relationship, but I can’t wait for them to sit at this table and work with me in person," she said.
