<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — A former Pine Forest High School teacher faces a criminal charge for having what Cumberland County authorities said appeared to be a one-day sexual relationship with a student.

Michael Thomas Correll II, 26, of 513 Torhunta Drive in Hope Mills, engaged in &quot;inappropriate behavior with a female student between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1,&quot; the sheriff's office said in a statement Wednesday. <br />

Correll, who was an art teacher and soccer coach at the school, was charged with sexual activity with a student, which is a felony under state law.

He was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $2,000 secured bond.

Correll was scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday afternoon.

"There's no threat. There's no firearm," Deputy Chief Rico Boyce said at the press conference. "A student made the principal aware that there's someone on campus with a firearm."
