Target reducing hours and reserving first hour on Wednesdays to at-risk guests

Target stores will be closing by 9 p.m. each evening so they can better clean and stock their stores.

In a move being taken by many retailers, they will also dedicate the first hour of shopping every Wednesday to those at greater risk of serious illness during this outbreak.

In an e-mail to customers on March 18, 2020, Target wrote, "We’ll also reserve the first hour of shopping each Wednesday to support vulnerable guests, including the elderly and those with underlying health concerns."

Their message also noted that the stores are "fast-tracking the flow of products that are in highest demand, including food, medicine and other essentials. We’ll continue to maintain limitations on in-demand items and respectfully ask all guests to consider their immediate needs and purchase accordingly so more families can find the products they need."

Target, like most stores offering these special at-risk hours, has not specified any age requirements for seniors since at-risk customers can be any age.

On March 16, Dollar General asked customers to let seniors shop during the first hour of business each day.
