Posted — Updated"We have done more than 50 Tar Heel Traveler ghost stories in the past decade," Mason said.
He shared the behind the scenes details from his shoot at the infamous Devil's Tramping Ground, where he had some very weird experiences.
"At this one point in the trail I swear I felt like a thousand red ants were on my back," Mason said. "It was at this one little spot and I took about two steps forward and the red ants disappeared."
There have been more than 2,000 Tar Heel Traveler segments aired on WRAL and each segment requires up to 10 hours of work - including traveling to the shoot, doing interviews, writing a script and working with his longtime photographer Robert Meikle to boil down into a short two-minute segment.
"I've been in TV for over 35 years and I strain over every story," he said.
