RALEIGH, N.C. — City Councilwoman Jessie Taliaferro said Thursday she wouldn't seek a runoff election to retain her seat on the council.

Taliaferro finished second in Tuesday's election to technology consultant Rodger Koopman in District B, which represents the northeast part of the city. Koopman won 44 percent of the vote to Taliaferro's 33 percent.

Because neither captured a majority of the vote, they could have taken part in a runoff next month.

But Taliaferro said she has changed her mind and doesn't want to pursue another term on the City Council.
