Take the Kids: Eat - Amorino in Raleigh turns gelato and sorbet into flowers on top of a cone

What makes this place stand out from your average ice cream or gelato shop is the way the cones are created. You're not going to get a couple of lumps of ice cream on top of a cone here.

RALEIGH, N.C. — You'll find Amorino, a chain of gelato and sorbet shops, in places like Prague and London, Paris and Venice, Las Vegas ... and downtown Raleigh.

At 137 E. Davie St., just about a block or so from ArtSpace, you'll find this amazing little shop that serves up some scrumptious gelato, gelato macarons, crepes, waffles and more.

And what makes this place stand out from your average ice cream or gelato shop is the way the cones are created. You're not going to get a couple of lumps of ice cream on top of a cone here.

Oh no ... not at Amorino. Instead, you'll get an artfully displayed selection of gelato and sorbet, which is placed, just so, on top of a cone or in a bowl, to look like petals on a flower.

I could go for one now!

The shop opened in Raleigh back in 2016. I've been several times - and have yet to get anything besides the gelato and sorbet. They are just so full of flavor and the cones are absolutely beautiful.

When you go into the shop, the ordering feels a bit backward. You stop at the cash register first, pick the size of your cone and pay. And a word of warning: These can get a bit pricey. They start at $5 for the small and can go way up from there depending on the size and whether you add a gelato macron to your selections. (A kids' size is offered at $3.75.)

Once you pay for your ice cream, then you go over to the ice cream display to pick all of your flavors. Mixing and matching flavors is encouraged and highly recommended. They can pack several flavors onto a small cone or bowl.

Gelato flavors include chocolate, dulce de leche, tiramisu, blueberry cheesecake, coffee and hazelnut. Sorbets include passion fruit, raspberry, mango and strawberry.

Amorino is open daily in downtown Raleigh. There's seating both inside and outside the shop. And, at about two blocks from Marbles Kids Museum, it adds to a nice day out in downtown with the kids.

And I'll close this post out with one more gelato beauty shot ... YUM!
