The city of Raleigh has launched a new summer photo contest that aims to get us outside and exploring the city's many parks and greenways.

As part of Turtle Treks, participants can pick up a toy turtle at select Raleigh parks, snap pictures of their turtles adventures at local parks and then share those photos on social media.

Here's how it works, according to a news release:

1. Pick up your turtle at one of the following locations:

  • Walnut Creek Wetland Center, 950 Peterson Street, Raleigh, NC 27610
  • Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center, 5611 Jaguar Park Dr, Raleigh, NC 27606
  • Forest Ridge Park Center, 2100 Old NC HWY 98, Wake Forest, NC 27587
  • Annie Louise Wilkerson MD Nature Preserve Park Center, 5229 Awls Haven Drive, Raleigh, NC 27614

The city also will be handing out the turtles at local events this summer.

2. Take your turtle with you as you explore Raleigh parks this summer.

3. Snap a photo of your turtle adventures, tag @RaleighParks and #TurtleTreks, then enter the photo contest to win prizes.

To enter the photo contest, submit your photo to this website. Then, share the link with your friends and family on social media to vote on the best #TurtleTreks photo. Be sure to use the hashtag #TurtleTreks and follow @RaleighParks on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

The photo with the most votes by 5 p.m., Aug, 1, will be the photo contest champion. The first, second and third place photos will receive Raleigh Parks Prize Packs. Sounds like a fun summer activity for families!
