SUV smashes into Clayton house

Clayton, N.C. — An SUV crashed into a Clayton home on Monday night, making the home uninhabitable.
Officials said the white SUV was driving westbound on N.C. Highway 42 near Johnston Medical Center. Around 10:45 p.m., the vehicle struck a traffic island at high speed, lost control and smashed into the home.
The driver, who was not identified, and two children in the SUV were taken to WakeMed for treatment. No one was inside the home at the time of the crash, but a dog escaped unharmed.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
