Suspect involved in high-speed chase charged with carrying $8,000 worth of marijuana, critically injuring another driver

Authorities responded to a violent crash between two vehicles in Knightdale on Sunday after a lengthy high-speed chase on Highway 64 spanned multiple counties.

KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — A lengthy, high-speed chase on U.S. Highway 64 spanned multiple counties on Sunday, ending in a crash in Knightdale. At one point, the fleeing suspect hit speeds of 120 mph, before crashing into a woman's vehicle, leaving her in critical condition.

Terry Lamar Harris was taken into custody at gunpoint according to officials.

Bystanders tried to help the woman trapped in her car, and emergency crews used the jaws of life to help free her.

Harris was not injured.

Harris was carrying about $8,000 worth of marijuana in the vehicle. He was charged with multiple charges, including assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony speed to elude arrest, felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell, maintaining vehicle for distribution of a controlled substance and careless and reckless driving.

A North Carolina State Highway Patrol representative told WRAL News that Nash County deputies were pursuing a the driver of a Mazda SUV that was driving recklessly in Spring Hope. Spring Hope police said authorities followed the driver nearly 30 miles into Wake County on U.S. 64.

A chase that started in Nash County went west and stopped when a driver crashed into another vehicle.

The driver got off the highway and was going down South Smithfield Road still trying to evade authorities when he drove through a red light and crashed into a black Lexus near the Poole Road intersection, authorities said.

Both vehicles appeared badly damaged from the wreck.
