Suspect in Roanoke Rapids homicide arrested

Roanoke Rapids, N.C. — Rocky Mount police arrested a man wanted in a weekend homicide in Roanoke Rapids late Tuesday.
Tavaras Ivey, also known as "Tater," was charged with first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm within the Roanoke Rapids city limits. He was being held without bond Tuesday in the Halifax County Jail.
Ivey was charged with the shooting death of Corey Graham, 21. Graham was shot around midnight Saturday outside the Interstate BP gas station, 1909 Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
Paramedics transported Graham to Halifax Regional Medical Center, where he died.
Police said they also want to speak with Micheal Bernard Ponton Jr., Alphonso Ponton and Vance Pernell about the shooting.
