RALEIGH, N.C. — After around a week of searching, Raleigh police have arrested and charged a suspect with a rape that happened near Glenwood South.

Joshua David Becker, 35, was charged with first-degree forcible rape, first-degree sexual offense, first-degree kidnapping and assault inflicting serious bodily injury in connection with this incident.

Becker was taken into custody by authorities in Bland, Virginia.

Neighbors living around the Glenwood-Brooklyn neighborhood near Five Points say this is typically a quiet stretch of road. They are shocked to hear about the crime.

Police say the crime happened in the early morning hours, around 12:30 a.m. Monday, June 13.

Neighbors say police have been in the area on multiple occasions since then looking for any witnesses and surveillance video.

The location is about four blocks from Raleigh’s Glenwood South, where there has been a spike in crime this year.

This is an issue Police Chief Estella Patterson has made a priority, saying she hopes more police presence will help turn those trends around.

At this point, it’s unclear if the suspect and victim knew each other. Becker is in custody in Virginia and is waiting to be brought back to North Carolina.
