GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Authorities have arrested a suspect who had been wanted in the New Year's Day shooting death of a Goldsboro man, police announced Monday.

Andre Devon Weeks, 26, was charged Friday on one count of murder with murder in the slaying of Larry Donnell Mathis Jr, 34.

Goldsboro police officers responding on Jan. 1 to calls about gunshots found Mathis, 34, lying dead in the 400 block of Woodrow Street. Police haven't commented on a motive.

North Carolina Department of Correction records show that Weeks has a criminal record dating to 2000 that includes convictions for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, other assault charges, common-law robbery and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.
