FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police have arrested a suspect who they believe started a small fire on the check-in counter of a hotel.

Jeffery Thomas Strange, 49, has been charged with first-degree arson.

A Crime Stoppers tip from a member of the public pointed police in the direction of Strange, who investigators say walked into the WoodSpring Suites, located at 6820 Cliffdale Road, around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday and placed charcoal on the counter before setting it ablaze with lighter fluid.

Investigators did not disclose a possible motive for the incident.

On Saturday, police released a picture of the suspect that was taken by the hotel's surveillance system. Anyone with information was asked to call Fayetteville police.

On Monday, Strange was being held on a $50,000 bond.
