Suspect detained in Durham restaurant shooting

Durham police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a restaurant shooting.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a restaurant shooting.

Miguel Angel Barrientos, 34, of Jubilee Lane, was detained Tuesday morning on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault by pointing a gun and discharging a firearm within the city limits.

Police said Barrientos shot a 28-year-old man at the Plaza Garibaldi restaurant on Foushee Street on June 1 after the victim asked him to stop bothering a female restaurant employee. The man was hit several times in the torso but survived.

Barrientos was in the Durham County jail under a $510,000 bond Tuesday afternoon.

The arrest was the result of a Crime Stoppers tip, police said.
