Suspect arrested in Raleigh bank robbery

Raleigh police have arrested a suspect in the robbery of a bank in the Cameron Village shopping center in Raleigh Friday afternoon.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police have arrested a suspect in the robbery of a bank in the Cameron Village shopping center in Raleigh Friday afternoon.

Walt Christopher Best, 38, was charged Sunday with one count of strong-arm robbery in connection with the robbery of the Bank of America branch at 321 Oberlin Road.

Police said that a passed a note to a teller demanding money, then fled on foot with an unreleased amount of cash.

Police said that surveillance photos released publicly after the robbery helped pinpoint Best as a suspect.

He was placed in the Wake County jail Sunday.

Best was convicted in the early 1990s of a string of break-ins and larcenies in Wake, Harnett and Franklin counties, according to state Department of Correction records.
