Super sale: How to find thousands of books for $1 this weekend
Children and adults can stock up on summer reading options and build their personal libraries inexpensively starting Thursday at the Wake County Public Library book sale.
Posted — UpdatedThe sale runs until Sunday at the Exposition Center at 1025 Blue Ridge Road at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. At the sale, shoppers can find more than 200,000 books, most of them donated, at remarkable prices.
The hours are:
- May 2: Noon to 9 p.m.
- May 3-4: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Theresa Lynch, who has organized the annual book sale for years, said certain genres sell-out quickly.
"We want to get these books back into the hands of people who will love and read them," Lynch said. "The children's books [go quickly] for sure. Anything from young child to young adult. They also love some good fiction, and Sci-Fi is huge."
Book prices start out at $4 for hardbound books and $2 for paperbacks, children's books and media. As the sale continues, prices drop each day.
On Friday, there's a buy one get one free deal, and on Saturday, hardbound books, paperback books, children's books and media are $1 each. The biggest deal is on Sunday -- the last day of the sale.
"Sunday, of course, is the crazy day," Lynch said. "You can get a box [of books] for $3 dollars, and let me tell you, for the past two years, we have sold out."
Last year, 11,000 people stopped in to buy books, according to Lynch.
"People want to come soon and they want to come early in the event because those books -- they get gone real quickly," Lynch said.
All the money from the sale goes back to Wake County's general fund, which is used for all county agencies and programs.
Plus, all Wake County Public School teachers and media specialists can use their IDs to get two free boxes of books for classroom use.
