Sunday's storms will signal cooler weather
Sunday got off to a hot, sticky start with a humid morning, and a round of afternoon and evening storms appears to be on tap before some relief from the heat arrives.
Posted — Updated"As we get into the later afternoon and evening, we'll have that chance of showers and thunderstorms flaring up," WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said.
The storms will largely be scattered and hit-and-miss but could become numerous in some spots. Eastern North Carolina has the best shot at storms and showers.
"Some of those could be intense as well," Moss said.
There's a slight risk of severe storms.
The greatest danger is from downburst winds that might be strong "enough to take down a tree here and there or some power lines in spots," Moss said. People should also watch out for large hail and isolated, heavy rain, and there's a "tiny chance" of tornadoes, he said.
The chances for storms will die off quickly once night falls, and the humidity and temperatures will drop as well.
While Sunday will see a high around 92 degrees, the mercury is predicted to stay in the low to upper 80s from Monday to Thursday.
