RALEIGH, N.C. — Monday will be milder and cloudy before unusually warm temperatures move in for the remainder of the work week.

Monday will feature varied highs, in the low 70s around the Triangle and in the low 80s in the southern counties.

Upper 80s: Summer temperatures coming this week

"If we see more cloud cover this will keep temperatures in the lower 70s, but if we're able to clear by the afternoon, it will quickly warm into the upper 70s or lower 80s," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

While a sprinkle is possible Monday, rain should not be an issue. The day will also be blustery, with winds moving up to 20 mph.

Starting Tuesday, it will feel like summer, according to Gardner.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be clearer than Monday and hot with a high of 87 degrees expected in Raleigh both days. The hottest day of 2019 so far was April 24 -- but it won't be after this week.

A chance for rain and thunderstorms comes for Thursday and Friday, but temperatures will stay very warm, in the mid 80s.

7-Day Forecast

By Saturday, there is a better chance of rain, but don't cancel outdoor plans just yet, said Gardner. It is too early to forecast the timing of that system.
